چکیده

A model for the computation of the airspace utilization rate is put forward to help the airspace manager assess the airspace usage effectively. Through proposing the concept of “airspace load”, the airspace resource is quantified and a new definition of the airspace utilization rate is introduced. Based on the new definition and the research about airspace capacity and air traffic flow management, a model is established by analyzing the flying process of an en-route to compute the utilization rate of the en-route. To know the computation feasibility and ability of the model, it is applied to a given en-route in the computational example, the results of which show that the model can simulate the operation process of the en-route and can reflect its usage situation.

Airspace Design and Arrival/Departure Planning

At airports without any plans to add new runways, it is imperative to best utilize the existing airport capacity in order to meet continued growth in traffic demand. One approach to maximize the use of airspace and airport is through efficient traffic planning in real time. This paper presents the development of a simulation prototype for Brussels National Airport to project demand in sectors o...

An Efficient Method for Airspace Analysis and Partitioning Based on Equalized Traffic Mass

We present a potential new partitioning mechanism for NAS-scale airspace that utilizes a high-resolution hexagonal grid. We use the Traffic Mass metric: total aircraft position report (“ETMS TZ hit”) count in each grid cell or airspace sector/center. Its relationship to Workload metrics is discussed. We describe a fast algorithm that processes large amounts of traffic data and creates potential...

Application of Epidemiology Model on Complex Networks in Propagation Dynamics of Airspace Congestion

This paper presents a propagation dynamics model for congestion propagation in complex networks of airspace. It investigates the application of an epidemiology model to complex networks by comparing the similarities and differences between congestion propagation and epidemic transmission. The model developed satisfies the constraints of actual motion in airspace, based on the epidemiology model...

Agent-Based Modeling and Simulation of Collaborative Air Traffic Flow Management Using Brahms

The air traffic demand on the US national airspace frequently exceeds its available capacity. In current operations, the Air Traffic Service Provider designs and implements air traffic management initiatives with minimal interaction with the airlines. NASA and its partners have developed a new collaborative air traffic flow management concept of operations that involves the users of the airspac...
